Research has shown that broken bones heal
faster when hypnosis is added to standard treatments.
Carol Ginandes, Ph.D. and Daniel Rosenthal,
professor of radiology at the Harvard Medical School did a
controlled study of the influence of hypnosis on broken bone
healing. All patients received the standard care for their
broken ankles. One half received hypnosis in addition. Those who
were hypnotized healed faster than those who were not. Six weeks
after the fracture, those in the hypnosis group showed the
equivalent of eight and a half weeks of healing.
Hypnosis can make almost all medical procedures more comfortable
and for many, even pain free.
The ability of hypnosis to alleviate the
discomfort of medical conditions is almost unlimited. In many
cases, patients and their doctors consider themselves "cured."
Pain
There are many different hypnotic interventions for pain
control. When you work with Dr. Bee she will evaluate your
situation and teach you several hypnotic pain control techniques
that you can use when you need them. You can either use your
recorded session or lean to hypnotize yourself, giving you more
flexibility when necessary. Dr. Bee has been trained in pain
management and is certified as a Hypno-Anesthesia Therapist.
Below is a brief except from a long article on pain management
written in 1993. A great deal more work has been done in this
field. For the entire article

The Use of Hypnosis in
Pain Management - A Review of the Current State of Knowledge
Marc Marcuse University of California, Los Angeles
Originally viewed as a magical cure-all, hypnosis has undergone
tremendous amounts of scientific testing in modern times. When
used in an appropriate manner, hypnosis has proven itself to be
an effective tool in the management of pain and pain perception.
The body of literature which has investigated whether hypnosis
can reduce pain sensitivity has been overwhelmingly supportive.
Universally successful in pain management. Hypnosis has been
shown effective in management of many varied types of pain,
including pain associated with childbirth (Weishaar, 1986),
angioplasty (Weinstein & Au, 1991), leukemia (Silva, 1990), and
even headaches (VanDyck, et al, 1991).
Although it has not been well characterized in terms of its
mechanisms of dealing with pain, hypnosis has been shown to be a
relatively effective, safe, and inexpensive way in which
patients can deal with their pain.
Hypnosis as an alternative treatment for
pain in palliative medicine
Peintinger
C, Hartmann W,. Researcher
Pain--which can have a variety of causes--constitutes a severe
problem for patients in need of palliative care, because this
pain usually dramatically impairs their quality of life. Thus,
the more advanced a terminal illness has become, the more
hospital staff should focus on holistic treatment, encompassing
body, mind and soul of the patient. Apart from conventional
medication-based pain therapy, there is also a variety of
non-medicinal treatments for pain. One of these methods is
hypnosis, an imaginative treatment that activates available
resources; it is not only an effective way of alleviating pain,
but it also can ease psychological problems at the same time.
OTHER CONDITIONS
Hypnosis has also been proven effective with conditions that
have been resistant to traditional treatment such as
fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and IBS. Hypnosis is also
used with burn patients. As a mater of fact, if hypnosis is used
immediately after a burn, blistering is diminished and healing
is rapid without severe scarring.
Hypnotherapy An
Effective Treatment For Irritable Bowel Syndrome
ScienceDaily (Sep. 28, 2005) - Medics at The University of
Manchester have discovered a way to treat Irritable Bowel
Syndrome (IBS) using hypnotherapy.
Up to eight
million people in Britain suffer from IBS, with symptoms
including diarrhea, pain and bloating. The condition can
seriously affect sufferers' quality of life and finding
treatment can be difficult, leading many doctors to feel they
can do little to help.
Peter Whorwell,
Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology in the University's
Medical School and Director of the South Manchester Functional
Bowel Service, said, "IBS is ideal for treatment with hypnosis,
as there is no structural damage to the body," "During the
hypnotherapy, sufferers learn how to influence and gain control
of their gut function, and then seem to be able to change the
way the brain modulates their gut activity."
With a success-rate of about 70% Professor Whorwell believes
that hypnotherapy could be an extremely effective treatment for
the condition; and a less expensive alternative to new, costly
drugs coming onto the market.
"We've found it
to help all the symptoms, whereas some of the drugs available
reduce only a few," he said. "As IBS can be a life-long
condition it could clearly be a very valuable option for
patients; however it is not suitable for everyone and women tend
to respond better than men."
Professor
Whorwell concludes, "The term hypnosis was coined by a
Manchester surgeon, James Braid, early in the nineteenth
century, and it's been in and out of fashion ever since. I'd
like to think that our Unit has brought hypnotherapy back to
Manchester, and helped improve its legitimacy."

Fibromyalgia Relief*
A national study found that 95% of patients who used hypnosis
for fibromyalgia had a greater than 50% improvement in their
symptoms The study found that hypnosis improved the quality (Useof
life by mitigating debilitating symptoms, improving restorative
sleep and minimizing the need for drugs.
Hypertension*
Research indicates that hypnosis is effective in lowering blood
pressure not only in the short term, but also is effective in
maintaining lower pressure up to one year and possibly longer.

*Note: Hypnosis is a complementary treatment to conventional
medical treatment. Referrals or prescriptions from physicians or
other health care profession required.
Dr. Bee has completed Specialty Certification courses in each of
the above conditions.
